Dear BC High community:
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced that Fr. Kevin White, SJ, a former member of the BC High faculty who last taught at the school in 2009, has been indicted on charges of sexual abuse of a minor.
These allegations, first brought to the school’s attention by a former student in 2021, are deeply concerning. Consistent with our established policies and procedures, we immediately shared the information with the USA East Province of Jesuits, of which Fr. White is a member. The School also has cooperated fully with the Suffolk County District Attorney Office’s investigation into the allegations. During Fr. White’s time teaching at BC High, the School had not received or been made aware of any allegation of abuse against him.
Although the incident allegedly occurred more than 15 years ago, it is essential to note that it does not involve current students, faculty, or staff.
BC High is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, and staff and ensuring their spiritual, mental, and physical well-being. To that end, we continually review and update our handbooks, policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure that we have proper protocols in place for the confidential reporting of any misconduct and provision of care to victims of abuse.
As a Jesuit Catholic school, BC High’s commitment to justice entails transparency, accountability, and leadership. Consistent with this commitment, we encourage members of our community who have any questions or concerns to contact the Office of the President at BC High at [email protected] or the USA East Province’s Pastoral Advocacy Coordinator at 443-370-6357 or [email protected]. All reports to BC High or the USA East Province will be treated as confidentially as possible.
Thank you for your confidence and support as we work through this challenging news together.
AMDG,
Grace Cotter Regan P’12
President
