Successful Summer for BC Hire Internship Program

Building on the success of the program, efforts have been made to offer career readiness skills for current students and young alumni. These programs include resume building, interviewing skills, and learning to work in a professional setting. Participants take an active role in their career development often incorporating lessons learned in the classroom to the corporate world.

Two such recent graduates are William Webb ’17 and Luc Benjamin ’17 who interned at Joyce and Associates, a leading immigration firm located in Boston, MA, this summer. While there, they worked under the Honorable William P. Joyce, a retired immigration judge of 30 years in the United States Department of Justice. Today, Attorney Joyce works side-by-side with his team dealing with a range of immigration matters involving “asylum, detained aliens, employment-based immigration, family immigration, naturalization, and representation before immigration Courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and federal courts.”

During their time at Joyce and Associates, Webb and Benjamin have helped the team on various immigration cases, by organizing and filing documents, attending meetings, and reading through each client’s cases that pass through the firm. Such experience, Attorney Joyce explains will “give them some idea of the challenges faced by lawyers in our field” and that, “they will leave with a better understanding of some of the problems immigrants face in our society.” Although this type of social justice is taught to each BC High student through various ethics courses, it is this firsthand experience, working with people dealing in this field each day that has been eye-opening to these two alumni who hope to make a difference in the future.
